According to the Consulate General of Germany in Mumbai, the year 2014 has seen a substantial surge in student visa applications, with a total count of 12,000 such visas being issued out of a total of 45,000 visas issued in one year. This accounts for a 15-20% growth through a period of five years.

Out of the total 45,000 visas given out from Mumbai which comprises student visas, business visas and tourist visas, there is a visible increase in the student visas over a year’s time, reaching a five digit figure.

Most of these students going abroad choose the U.S. or UK as their top choice because of English language familiarity and family tie-ups. Deputy consul general, Michael Ott said that Germany has thus seen a total of 12,000 Indian students.

The main reasons for Indian students choosing Germany for study purpose are universities with most advanced level of infrastructure, less tuition fee, numerous festivals and attractions.
