Denmark– Ranked As The Happiest Nation Of The World
According to the World Happiness Index, Denmark has been ranked as the leading country for having the happiest population. For the year 2016, Denmark is declared as the winner, followed by Switzerland, Iceland, and Norway. Afghanistan, Togo, Syria are the unhappiest nations and Burundi comes in last at 157th.
The researchers have come up with the list, based on answers to evaluation questions in the poll. The “Cantril ladder” used in the survey, asks people to imagine a ladder, with steps numbered from zero at the bottom to 10 at the top. The top represents that you have the best possible life and the bottom represents the worst possible life for you. This scale represents the reasonable standpoint of your life. In short, researchers asked people to explain about their ranking on their own. The answers of the respondents were weighed based on other factors such as levels of GDP, generosity, freedom, life expectancy social support and corruption.
The results were later compared with ‘Dystopia’ - an imaginary place or state shaped by the researchers’ team where everyone is depressed and unpleasant. This unhappy fictional kingdom allows all respondents to remain optimistic in the six factors mentioned above.
Dystopia is a benchmark used by many countries to make a better graph. The index looks effective as it gauges more than economic factors.
