US witnesses 40% surge in student visa applications from India

International students count increased by 13% with India as a major source

The New Zealand has hit the headlines yet another time for all good reasons. According to the latest statistics, the count of international students pursuing their studies in New Zealand has increased and in fact, in the previous year the count has hit to 10- year high. In 2014, the count has increased to 13% when compared to earlier that year. The initial major rise was seen in 2010, with the influx of Indian student’s enrolments, increase by 67%. Apparently, the reports also shows that the overall count of international students pursuing their studies in the country during the previous year has reached to 110,198, the highest it has been since 2004. The major source nation with highest number of enrolments is India, which has witnessed 8,135 more students’ arrival to study in New Zealand in the previous year. Additionally, international students also came from countries such as China, Philippines and Thailand. The growth in Indian student enrolments was mostly seen in the PTE sector along with the ITP sector. New Zealand has already set a target to enhance the value of international education sector to $5bn by 2025.   The government also promulgated that it provides NZ$376,325 of co-funding for the international education sector for 10 new initiatives. Growth in international students coming to US especially from Asian nations

The US has hit the headlines yet another time for all good reasons. This year, US universities and educational institutions has witnessed a huge increase in the number of international students especially in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) courses. According to the National Center for Education Statistics data, International students attained nearly 11.6% of all doctorates awarded by U.S. colleges during 2012-2013 academic year, however they consists 56.9% of all doctoral degrees in engineering, 52.5% in computers and informatics and 50% in mathematics and statistics. In 2013-2014 academic year, over 886,000 international students were enrolled in U.S. universities or pursuing “optional practical training” – work related in their respective field of study. As per the New York-based Institute of International Education report, the international student populace has increased to 72% from 1999 to 2013, the augment in students count has seen mostly from Asian nations. Apparently, US constitute 102,673 students from India. Apart from India other major source of international students are China, South Korea and Vietnam. International students in the US are more emphasized in STEM fields than US students on a whole. During 2013-2014, among all the academic fields of study the most popular one is business (188,179) followed by engineering (160,128) and computer and information sciences (65,291). Alternatively, the other most popular fields of study are health professions, liberal arts/humanities, business, and education; engineering and computer sciences ranked 10th and seventh, respectively. However, this doesn’t mean that all the international students have alike academic profiles. Australia to be marked as a leading study destination for International students

During the fiscal year 2013 to 2014, more than 200,000 individuals relocated to Australia to reside permanently, of which most of them were international students. The Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) demonstrate that 207,900 immigrants settled permanently during 2013-14, and India is the main source of new entries with 40,000 arrivals. Australia’s migration trends 2013-2014 reported that nearly 290,000 student visas were granted in the previous year, the highest count since the international economic downturn. The Minister for Immigration and Border Protection, Peter Dutton, said that the report includes an affluence of information regarding present migration trend. He said that the report offer a valuable and affluent source of details on how immigration is influencing Australia. Minister also welcomed the increase in international students count. This states that Australia’s student visa program remains to be robust and alluring to the international students and maintains its place as one of the country’s major export earners.
